I’m about to share something that will change your life forever, because it’s currently doing so much wonders in mine. I believe you’ve been in a place where your devotion is just up there today, you’re so fervent and then days/months later your devotion takes a downward slope.
You just discover your desire reduces, activities and worries of life chokes it and it’s not like you even stopped praying or studying but you’re not just as fervent. Well this has been the highlight of my Christian devotion for years and honestly at some point I just told myself maybe this is how it’s supposed to be, “it would have to be a once a while delight experience and then more of duty” only for me to stumble on a sermon by my father Apostle Emmanuel Iren, the title of the sermon is profit and loss, e shock you too Abi 😂, I wasn’t expecting anything spiritual in that kind of sermon trust me, I honestly thought the sermon was about money hehe.
So I can’t remember why but after a long while of not writing when listening to sermon and not writing, this particular day I decided to just listen and write, so if I’m going to write I’ll have to pay rapt attention to take notes diligently, at least I needed to the time, for God sake it’s profit and loss and sapa wan finish me. I guess God just needed to teach me something that day, honestly I can’t remember why I started writing and paid rapt attention to that sermon. So while listening Pastey quoted the scripture that changed my life 1Timo4:15 “Meditate upon these things, give thyself wholly to them, that your profiting may appear to all” by the way I quoted this scripture off my head, it’s important to me that you know this because quoting scriptures off my head have always been a problem for me.
I’ll be quick with this, the reason we’ve been having more of duty with our devotion than delight is because we do not seek God with all our hearts, simple yeah? Trust me this will change your life forever, it’s because we think all we need to do to have a good relationship with God is read our Bible, pray and don’t do bad things. But like my pastor would say in this kingdom why and how we do what we do is as important as what we do. The Bible says in the book of Jeremiah29:13 You will seek me and you shall find me IF you search me with all your heart. There’s something about the position of our hearts and finding God. We cannot have a devotion filled with delight without searching for God with all our hearts.
When praying/studying/listening to sermon we need to be like the man who is in search of something that his life depends on, WITH ALL OUR HEARTS AND ATTENTION. It must command our utmost attention, we have to do it like we lost something and we have to find it. You can start as a form of duty but I promise you with my life that if you put your mind to it you will definitely not leave that place of spiritual devotion not being delightful. Nothing at all should command your utmost attention than this. Give it your whole being. I’ve been practicing this for days now and every time I leave the place of prayer/study/listening to a sermon I leave delightful, I even told a friend to try it and her testimony was beautiful. I can’t wait to hear your testimony.
See ehn today, just listen to one sermon on maybe something you think you need help with, pay rapt attention to it, when you’re done pray for at least 15min, undivided attention just give the Holy Ghost your heart, text me on Instagram or Twitter your testimony.
Lemme give one motivation, the Bible verse in 1Timothy4:15 says that thy profiting may appear to all, this means when you do this, even without talking it will be evident and obvious to men that something has changed about your life, remember that one delightful spiritual day you had, how much impact it made in your life, imagine if you can have that everyday kai!
I implore you to start putting your skin into your devotion and see your life constantly change.
Love you 😍
